Recreational camps are defined as having 5 or more children and operate anytime between June 1 and September 30 and/or during school vacations. In Massachusetts, these programs must be inspected and licensed by the local board of health in the town or city where the camp is located. In order to receive a permit to operate, camps must meet all regulatory standards established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and any additional local requirements.
The purpose of 105 CMR 430.000 is to provide minimum standards for housing, health, safety and sanitary conditions for minors attending recreational camps for children in the Commonwealth.
