After Arthur Bennett moved to Stoneham some 43 years ago from Everett with his collection of picture postcards, he immediately started searching for postcards of Stoneham at yard sales, club meetings, postcard shows, and on the Internet. Since then, he’s amassed over 200 picture postcards of Stoneham dating back to the golden age of postcards [from 1901 to 1907],”
When local historian Joanne B. Harriman, released her book entitled, “Images of America: Stoneham” in 1999, the illustrations included many images from Bennett’s extensive postcard collection.
In addition, he lent his extensive collection to the Historical Commission so we could digitize those postcards for the Noble Digital Heritage database, and they will be made available to the public. This is a repository of rich social and historical information from its member communities.
In addition, over 30 of his postcards are on display in the public library for a month.
